Southern STARRS

Southern STARRS adheres to PATH International (formerly NARHA) operating standards and was co‑founded by Terry and Saranne Winfield, who participate as advisors to a 12‑member Board of Directors. Board membership includes equine, health, education, business, and legal professionals. It is supported by a broad range of volunteers with experience in horse care, physical and recreational therapy, and disability training. STARRS collaborates with numerous area disability, youth, and social service organizations.

Southern STARRS is a 501c3 nonprofit agency open to any individual (minimum age is 3-years-old) who has been diagnosed with a physical or mental disability, including our STARRS-4-STRIPES program for Veterans and First Responders injured while in the line of duty. Adult students, parents or guardians are invited to submit a completed application, and a staff member will follow-up with further information. Limited tuition scholarships are available for qualifying students who need financial assistance. You may also apply for assistance through an organization called H.A.T.S. (See their website under the Links tab.) STARRS is equipped with an indoor riding ring, and holds early spring, summer and fall class sessions. Classes are one hour each and are held one time weekly for each student.

See more information about our program at GivingMatters.com. GivingMatters® is a project of The Community Foundation of Middle Tennessee in partnership with area funders. GivingMatters® provides information and tools to allow you to give with confidence and meaning. Please search for our organization name "Southern STARRS". Southern STARRS is an 501c3 charity and all contributions are tax deductible.  Interested donors may help sponsor a child in the program.  Tuition for a 10-week session is $200 per child, although the actual cost is about $680. Scholarships are made available to students who are unable to pay the full tuition price.  Any contribution is greatly appreciated.  You may mail contributions to the STARRS program office or use PayPal to securely pay your contribution on-line.
